Geralt starts off with 5 bad-ass spells, so why not start there? And isn't it preferable to incinerate your enemies from as far away as possible? But unfortunately can't really use them much until you gain more Vigor points. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition MAGIC!
